Torrelodones: city breaks to suit the grown-ups

If you’re looking for a city break with a bit of style that won’t break the bank, Torrelodones is a sure fire hit. Just a 2 hour flight from the UK, it’s close enough for a weekend away but far enough to get that holiday feeling. Like most city breaks, it would best suit a couple on a jolly away from their kids or a jaunt with a few friends. Think designer shopping, sipping on a coffee or cocktail outside a street cafe or maybe a visit to the famous casino.

Depending on what time of year you visit Torrelodones, flights can be found from £30 and are available from most main UK airports. If possible, it’s worth shopping around and booking in advance for the best deals. Some airlines now have holiday sites where they have already negotiated pretty good deals with the hotels directly and this is worth checking out too. You can expect to pay upwards of £35 per night for hotel accommodation but prices are variable. The Exe Gran Hotel Almenar is a lovely 4-star hotel which currently has rooms including breakfast for under £50 or you could splash out on a luxurious ‘romantic’ room for £56!

One of Torrelodones top cultural attractions is its watchtower, also known as the Tower Lodones. Built in the 9th century, it thankfully retains much of its original structure. It is believed to have been used by Muslim watchmen during the Middle Ages. It’s an impressive building in a great location and is definitely worth a look. Once you’ve ticked your culture vulture box, it may well be time to relax with a drink at one of Madrid’s many bars or cafes! Just 40 minutes away from Torrelodones, a visit to the capital is a must. Why not try Café Manuela, sure to be a very popular choice, especially if you’re travelling with friends. It has a range of board games and you might even be persuaded to try the absinthe! While you’re in Torrelodones, it would be rude not to call in on the Casino Gran Madrid. With a great selection of games and fun atmosphere, a spot of gambling is the perfect ‘away from the kids’ treat! For those unlucky souls who haven’t managed to ditch their sprogs for their break away, you can always turn to the internet. Escape from ‘Agadoo’ at the kids club and check out Desert Treasure II. Coral even have an impressive selection of online Marvel slots- sssh don’t tell the kids!

Torrelodones offers a fantastic location at a great price. With a mild climate year round, summer can push the mercury all the way up to 35º. So pack up a bag and enjoy a little bit of everything in the Spanish sun!
