The country has done a brilliant job of protecting its nature and natural resources for you to enjoy on your Costa Rica vacations. National Peaks, Biological Reserves, Beaches on Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, six active volcanos – Costa Rica will spoil you with choices when you decide to spend your family vacation in this country. Here is a list of three places in Costa Rica which you must visit during you are travelling to this country with your family, and you can be sure to have a fun filled, memorable family trip.
1. Tortuguero National Park
Located along the Caribbean Sea on the east coast of the Costa Rica, the Tortuguero National Park is a gem hidden away from the world. With a population of only 1,200 – it truly feels like in the middle of nowhere. You can reach this park by flight, but most of the people prefer the boat – as you get to see a lot of Tortuguero’s wildlife while speeding through the park. You might get to see manatees, turtles, howler monkeys, birds of many kinds and of course, crocodiles. Visit ‘The Land of the Turtle’, where the locals dedicate their lives to protect these creatures. Learn about the dark history of the place, and get a more hands-on experience of turtle conservation. Also, make sure you go for a naturalist-led boat tour of the park. Go on a leisurely walk through the town to explore the gentle vibes of the place.
2. Arenal Volcano
The Arenal Volcano is arguably the most famous volcano in Costa Rica. The volcano dominates the skyline of the town of La Fortuna with its almost perfect shape. The almost daily eruption made this volcano a spectacular sight till 2010, as you got to see the exploding lava in front of your very own eyes if you were in the right spot. However, it has entered into a resting period since 2010. But it still remains one of the most popular and most visited volcano in the country. There are also a lot of natural hot water springs in this area, thanks to the geothermal activity of Arenal. Spend some leisurely time soaking in one of the hot pools and explore the beautiful landscapes while reaching one pool from another.
3. Guanacaste Province
One jungle and one volcano down, now it’s time for some beaches. Head over to Guanacaste Province towards the end of your family trip, as it will be the perfect spot to wash away all the fatigue from your kids’ and your family’s faces. The province entirely encompasses the North Pacific coast of Costa Rica, and there are a lot of beaches for you to explore here. The Tamarindo locality is getting particularly popular among the tourists.
If you want a more unspoiled experience, move past Tamarindo and you will find some beautiful stretches of sandy white beaches away from the crowd, waiting for you and your family. There are a lot of beaches and tropical dry forests in Guanacaste for you to enjoy. The province is also quite popular for the Papagayo Gulf – a luxurious resort town where you can spend the most luxurious, relaxing days you will probably spend in Costa Rica. You can relax on the beach soaking up the sun, or take part in the various water sports available here, especially surfing. In fact, it houses some of the best surfing spots in Costa Rica.
